Andrea Karr: Whom do you design for?
Wendy Hirschberg Clurman: "A woman who wants to look polished and pulled together. She looks effortless and not overdone. I've been watching a lot of House of Cards, so Robin Wright is definitely in my head at the moment."
AK: What inspires you?
WHC: "I look everywhere for inspiration. I look at people on the street. I look at movies. I might look at a Prada book from the early '90s or blogs. It might be decor that brings it all together for me."
AK: What are the key pieces a woman needs in her summer wardrobe?
WHC: "Clothes should work year-round. If you buy the perfect black blazer, pencil skirt or sheath, they should work for you in a seasonless way. You could mix your black blazer with a white jean and it becomes more summer-appropriate."
AK: Do you have any tips for restyling a look from office to evening?
WHC: "Say you're wearing a blazer and a sheath dress in the morning—all you have to do is take off your blazer, throw on a pair of heels, and you can go to a cocktail party. If you buy a black suit, you should be able to wear your blazer over a dress, with a suit or with a pair of jeans."
