Knitted mohair lace pillows in two variations

Lace pillows
The airy, ethereal look of kid mohair forces me to suppress the urge to knit curtains with it. It is so lovely! But pay attention to your pattern. The loveliness will fade if you have to rip out stitches!

Size
16" x 16" (40.5 cm x 40.5 cm)

Materials
Crystal Palace Kid Merino 1 oz (25 g)/240 yd (219 m), 28% Kid Mohair/28% Merino Wool/44% Micro Nylon: 3 balls Apple (A), 3 balls Pink (B)
• 1 pair US 6 (4 mm) needles or size required to achieve gauge
• Two 16" x 16" (40.5 cm x 40.5 cm) pillow inserts

Gauge
21 sts and 24 rows = 4" (10 cm) in Pattern A.
21 sts and 30 rows = 4" (10 cm) in Pattern B.

Stitch patterns
Pattern A
Row 1 (WS) and all WS rows: Purl.
Row 2: K2, *k1, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo; repeat from * to last 3 sts, k3.
Row 4: K4, *yo, k3; repeat from * to last st, k1.
Row 6: K2, k2tog, *yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, sl2 knitwise, k1, p2sso; repeat from * to last 9 sts, ending yo, ssk, k1, k2tog,yo, ssk, k2.
Row 8: K2, *k1, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk; repeat from * to last 3 sts, k3.
Row 10: As for row 4.
Row 12: K2, *k1, k2tog, yo, sl2 knitwise, k1, p2sso, yo, ssk; repeat from * to last 3 stitches, k3.
Repeat rows 1-12 for Pattern A.

Pattern B
Row 1 (WS) and all WS rows: Purl.
Row 2: K4, *yo, ssk, k1, (k2tog, yo) twice, k3; repeat from * to end.
Row 4: *K3, (yo, ssk) twice, k1, k2tog, yo; repeat from * to last 4 sts, k4.
Row 6: K2, *(yo, ssk) 3 times, k4; repeat from * to last 2 sts, yo, ssk.
Row 8: K1, *(yo, ssk) 4 times, k2; repeat from * to last 3 sts, yo, ssk, k1.
Rows 10, 12 & 14: As rows 6, 4 & 2.
Row 16: K2tog, yo, *k4, (k2tg, yo) 3 times; repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.
Row 18: K1, k2tog, yo, *k2, (k2tog, yo) 4 times; repeat from * to last st, k1.
Row 20: As row 16.
Repeat rows 1-20 for Pattern B.

Pillow A
With A, cast on 83 sts.
Work Pattern A until the pillow measures 32" (81.5 cm) from the cast-on edge, ending with RS facing for next row.
Bind off all sts.

Edging
With the circular needle, cast on 340 sts.
Beginning with a purl row, work 3 rows in St st.
Next row (RS): K4, *yo, k2tog, k2; repeat from * to end.
Work 3 rows St st. Bind off all sts.

Finishing
Fold the pillow in half and sew the sides together, leaving one side open to insert the pillow form. Insert the pillow form and sew opening closed with whipstitch. Sew the edging around the pillow, easing it around the corners. Sew the edging ends together.

Pillow B
With B, cast on 84 sts.
Work Pattern B until the pillow measures 32" (81.5 cm) from the cast-on edge, ending with RS facing for next row.
Bind off all sts.

Finishing
Fold the pillow in half and sew the sides together, leaving one side open to insert the pillow form. Insert the pillow form and sew the opening closed with whipstitch.
