Alexis Galarneau, 24, is the youngest child from a family of four kids. He started playing tennis at the age of eight and went on to train at the National Tennis Centre presented by Rogers before competing at the collegiate level for North Carolina State University. Finishing with a 77-40 record in singles and 70-38 record in doubles, Galarneau was the captain of the team and received numerous accolades such as being named an ITA All-American twice.

The Laval, Quebec native has been playing full time on the ATP Tour since mid-2021. He won the Granby National Bank Championships in his home province just a couple of weeks ago, and a M15 Fayetteville, AR title on the ITF Men's World Tennis Tour in November 2020. Galarneau achieved a career-high singles ranking of No. 162 on the ATP Tour following his victory in Granby. Galarneau was part of Team Canada presented by Sobeys’ Davis Cup team in 2022, appearing in the three ties as the country claimed its first-ever championship.

CLQ: Growing up, why did you choose tennis?

I chose tennis because of its individualism side which gives you ownership on your actions and progress. I also enjoy the physicality of the sport and the matchup against your opponent.

CLQ: What advice would you give to a young athlete picking up the sport?

My advice to the younger generation is to make sure you enjoy it and to maintain a positive mindset as tennis will bring you lots of up and down moments!

CLQ: What are your thoughts going into the National Bank Open?

My hopes for the National Bank Open are to take it one match at a time and not put any limits on my results. I feel very confident in my progress and I hope to showcase it to the Toronto crowd!
