MarriageProposals

Today, we’re turning things over to our intern, Linda Cotrina: Modern-day marriage proposals are all about being creative and slightly over-the-top—okay, actually very over-the-top, in some cases. It seems that the simple and private moment of getting down on one knee and popping the question just doesn't cut it anymore. Proposals are now all about people coming up with elaborate, long, tear-jerking proposals that are shared with millions around the world via social media. Recording the proposal is the latest trend and couples can even hire a proposal planner to help develop the idea into a reality. So fellas take note and ladies grab a box of tissues; we've rounded up five of the best proposals caught on video. 1. The meme proposal "Y u no put a ring on it?" A personal favourite, this proposal takes an Internet staple—the meme—and creatively turns it into an adorable proposal. Timothy, an evident Internet meme aficionado, surprises his girlfriend, Audrey, by appearing outside the restaurant where she was eating dinner. Through the glass main door, he stands with printout memes and quite heartwarmingly proposes to her without really having to say, "will you marry me?" but does, anyway, towards the end. Prepare yourselves for cuteness overload with this one. [HTML1] 2. The 'marry me' mural Jeff Gurwin skipped the traditional way of proposing to girlfriend, Caitlin, and took on a more artistic approach: He did it with a hand-painted mural on Avenue A and Second Street in New York City. The video shows a time-lapse of the mural being created from start to finish and incorporates their favourite board game, Scrabble, as the letter tiles to spell out his proposal: "Caitlin Will You Marry Me?"  What could be more creative and thoughtful than that? [HTML2] 3. Justin and Emily, The Proposal Also known as the longest proposal EVER, running about 20 plus minutes long, Justin makes his fiancée sit through an epic homemade movie at the restaurant where they had their first date --*sigh*. With hidden cameras all around, watch their journey, which ultimately leads to his beautiful and epic proposal. (Make sure you have some spare time, plenty of ice cream and tissues around for this one.) [HTML3] 4. Movie trailer proposal This proposal takes you to the movies as Matt creates a trailer about a man talking to his future father-in-law, asking for his blessing to marry his daughter. This trailer is shown in the theatre where his then girlfriend, Ginny, was supposed to be watching a movie with her brother. After the permission was granted, the camera pans out and focuses to reveal Ginny's father. Surprise! Take a seat, grab some popcorn and watch what ensues next. [HTML4] 5. Six-year proposal A year into their relationship, Richard had the idea to document some important highlights of his and Samantha's relationship by taking photographs of themselves with letters. They wanted to prove that if one day they got married, they'd have a sign that read, "we always knew." Six years in, watch as Richard decides to photograph the last letter with a new question. Melt!
