Miraj Hammam Spa By Caudalie Paris in the Shangri-La

The Hammam inside the  Miraj Hammam Spa By Caudalie Paris

A Moroccan vibe with an essence of Paris (thanks to the in house Caudalie Pairs skin care) and a warm and friendly staff is what awaits you at the Miraj Hammam Spa by Caudalie Paris. At first, you might think Moroccan-style steam baths paired with a wine-focused French spa wouldn’t blend, but the combo works!

This serene oasis is nestled on the fifth floor of the Shangri-La Hotel and offers intoxicating treatments such as the signature crushed cabernet scrub, honey and wine body wrap and the cru facial treatment. However what it’s really known for is the Hammam and Gommage.

Signature treatment: Sign up for a signature Hammam and Gommage treatment (30 min) and you’ll be flat on your back on a bench of Jerusalem gold marble as soothing steam float around you. What’s a Hammam and Gommage you ask? Well, it’s the perfect treatment to help you let go of tension and decompress while leaving skin polished and baby soft. It starts with a detoxifying steam room session (this is the Hammam) followed by a full-body exfoliation (this is the gommage part) using a eucalyptus-infused black Moroccan soap. Your skin will never feel softer.

Price: Hammam & Gommage, $135-$145 (30 min)

Special Valentine’s day offers:

Treat your partner (and yourself) to the “Hearts Will Melt” couples treatment. It entails the classic Hammam Gommage with the addition of a Rhassoul Clay Masque. After your treatment you leave with the traditional Kessa glove and eucalyptus infused black Moroccan soap so you can do some gommage self care at-home. Normally this service will run you $520 (for two) but for Valentine’s Day it’s $470.

Nothing says luxury like laying next to your partner in a state of undress on Jerusalem gold marble as you experience an full body gommage. I mean, how good does that sound! This “Lover’s Escape” detoxifying treatment is 60 minutes and will cost $786 for two.

Finish the romantic day—or evening—downstairs at the Shangri-La’s Bosk restaurant which offers a three course price fixed meal for Valentine’s Day. The menu  includes oysters or foie gras, cod or beef tenderloin and chocolate and cinnamon sorbet or rhubarb and ginger ice cream. The cost is $75 per person, including a glass of prosecco.

My Blend Spa by Clarins in The Ritz-Carlton

The My Blend Spa by Clarins lounge

If you’re looking for a spa that checks all the boxes (water therapy, steam rooms, sauna, well curated spa menu, stunning co-ed lounge and innovative treatments) then My Blend Spa by Clarins at The Ritz-Carlton Toronto is the place. This dreamy space has plenty of natural light which adds to an airy effect. If you make the trip here to do a service bring your swimsuit—and a friend—and take advantage of its vast amenities, make a day of it.

The products used are slightly different than what you’d expect from a Clarins spa, instead it's the brand’s professional line: My Blend. The range has been developed in Paris and is designed to combat city stress using plant extracts, healing botanicals along with a focus on touch and massage. Though the spa offers a full range or services for men and women it’s their facials that really set them apart.

Signature treatment: Last year the spa started offering an anti-aging My Blend facial that utilizes three innovative technologies; light therapy, vibration technology and cryotherapy along with traditional facial massage techniques. It starts with a skin diagnosis that explores your stress levels, diet and environment. Then a custom blend of My Blend boosters are chosen (you get to go home with the leftovers). After a mini hot stone massage skin is cleansed and exfoliated and prepped for the machines. The first, My ColourBlend, is an LED mask that’s placed over your face while emitting light: red to calm or blue to purify. Next is My WaveBlend, a vibrating treatment that is applied to the face and décolleté to stimulate lymphatic drainage. Finally, My Cryotech, This cooling wand uses cryotherapy to tone skin for an instant glow.

Price: My Blend Facial Treatment, $230 (60min), spamyblendtoronto.com

Spa in the Four Seasons Hotel

The Four Season's Pedicure cubbies

Not only is this one of the best but it’s also one of the biggest, 2,787-square-metres to be exact. The thermal pool is sprawling and can easily fit 10 people while the steam room also boasts a substantial size. The neutral colour palette in the lounge hums with efficiency and feng shui feel-good design.

Signature treatment: With treatment names like two hours is just right massage and gold plumping facial, this spa caters to serious spa aficionados. A unique massage the spa offers is the healing bamboo massage. It’s the deepest and most natural service on the menu which uses different-sized bamboo and a natural, botanical blend of seven vegan oils. If you don’t like deep tissue you may want to pass on this deep-pressure massage which helps reduce stress and tension while stimulating blood flow and lymphatic drainage.

Price: Healing Bamboo Massage, $190 (60 min), fourseasons.com.

Body Blitz (East)

null

This sister location to the original Body Blitz (at Portland and Adelaide) is a women's only spa distinguished by its therapeutic water circuit. The main point of difference from the first location is it’s newer and larger.

The 1,672-square-meter multi-level spa is equipped with treatment rooms, a juice bar, lockers, saunas and their signature water circuit. Guests are encouraged to move from a warm Dead Sea salt pool, to a hot Epsom salt pool, to a cold plunge pool and then finish with an aromatherapy steam and infrared sauna session. We should note, swimsuits are optional at this women's only spa.  Bonus: If you book a treatment (body scrub, body mud, body glow or massage) you get access to the waters.

Signature treatment: The must-try is the blitz scrub which uses one of the spa’s special exfoliating blends; sweet ginger scrub (sugar, avocado oil, olive oil, argan oil, molasses, ginger and cardamom), mint-lime scrub (Rich in essential fatty acids, avocado oil, olive oil, argan oil and shea butter) and the eucalyptus mineral scrub (100% moor mud, eucalyptus and rosemary). The invigorating body wash and scrub doesn’t leave you feeling cold or uncomfortable, which some (many) scrubs get that bad rap . Every last inch of your body is exfoliated, cleansed and finally massaged with moisturizer.

Price: Blitz scrub, $150 (60 min), bodyblitzspa.com.

Elmwood Spa

null

Located in a historic brick building at 18 Elm street in Toronto’s downtown core, the spacious multi-level spa offers every spa treatment you can imagine (and then some) and runs like a well oiled machine—being this large, it kind of has to!

Its relaxing atmosphere, friendly concierge, and large amount of treatment rooms make it a great option if you’re looking for a last minute booking. The spa offers complimentary water therapy if you spend over $99 in treatments and also includes a female-only hot tub and sauna, so don’t forget to bring your swimsuit.

Signature treatment: The Li’tya (le-dee-ah) is an ancient Australian type of treatment that’s exclusive to Elmwood spa in Canada. It aims to bring balance between elements (earth, water, air, fire and wood) by combining a range of sensory therapies selected for their efficiency in purifying, nourishing and harmonizing the body as a whole. The Kodo body massage integrates rhythmic massage, inspired by traditional Australian Aboriginal techniques and uses a combination of pressure points and spiraling movements to ground and uplift, leaving the body’s energies ‘laughing with joy.’ The kicker is the smudging and quandong hair and scalp treatment.

Price: LI'TYA Kodo Body Massage, $180 (60 min), elmwoodspa.com.
