How to properly grease a baking pan

You've got a lovely homemade cake baking up nicely in the oven, you can start to almost taste that very first bite of deliciously sweet indulgence only to realize that it's impossible to take out of the pan. Sound familiar? Here is a fail-safe way to grease a baking pan so that your cakes are always easy to unmold: 1. Rub butter or brush vegetable oil all over the inside of your pan. To know when it's best to use butter or oil, take a look here. 2. Sprinkle with flour. 3. Tap and tilt the pan so the flour moves about and evenly sticks to the oil/butter. 4. Discard excess flour by taping it onto your work surface. 5. Pour in your batter and wait for beautiful results! Tip: If you're making a chocolate cake, use cocoa powder instead of the flour so that the outside of your cake doesn't discolour. Photography by Jennifer Bartoli
