Chewy Dulce de Leche Squares

We’re firm believers that everything tastes better when made with the caramel-y goodness of dulce de leche.

Method

In large bowl, using electric mixer, beat together butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar until creamy; beat in eggs and vanilla.

In separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda; using wooden spoon, stir into butter mixture until combined. Stir in chocolate chips. (Make-ahead: Dough can be wrapped in plastic wrap, refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 1 month.)

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease sides of 8-inch square baking pan. Press half of the dough lightly into pan; spread dulce de leche over top, then press remaining dough lightly over top. Bake for about 30 minutes or until golden at edges. Let cool completely; cut into 16 squares.

Test Kitchen Tip: If you don’t have dulce de leche, you can substitute regular or salted caramel sauce.
