Cottage weekend cuisine

Everyone delights in a weekend excursion, whether it's a weekly ritual or a rare few days away from the hustle and bustle. To make the most of your holiday time, we've planned the menus for the entire weekend for family and guests. With these east ideas you'll be able to enjoy the outdoors, soaking up the sun with everyone else.

Friday night features an easy barbecue menu that will put everyone in the mood for a great weekend. Start Saturday with a hearty breakfast including fresh-from-the-oven corn bread. Lunch can be a make-your-own affair with black bread, smoked fish or cold meats and freshly baked oatcakes.

Make the Saturday evening meal special with Crostini (crisp cheese fingers), chilled carrot soup, Barbecued Flank Steak and salads. Round out the meal with Lemon Marsala Syllabub with Black Fruit Salad.

The first one up Sunday morning can bake Banana Pecan Muffins or reheat frozen muffins you've prepared at home. The weekend ends with wonderful midday brunch.

Because summer is berry time, we've included a wide variety of these delicious fruits. You can substitute the freshest berries you can find for the ones we've called for. (Recipes are only provided for menu items marked with an asterisk.)
