Stop Throwing Out These 10 Foods That Virtually Never Go Bad
Some pantry foods can be eaten long after their expiration date (provided that they are stored correctly!).
Here's how to keep some pantry staples fresh for a long, long time. If these foods are stored in a dry, moisture-free environment, you can eat them for many years.
1. Honey
Honey does not mold or deteriorate thanks to its low humidity level and antibacterial properties. It can, however, crystallize over time. If this happens, you can simply warm it gently to liquefy it.
2. White rice
White rice can last indefinitely if stored in a dry, airtight place. Be careful, however, not to mix with brown rice, which will not survive past its expiration date.
3. Salt
Unsurprisingly, salt is a natural mineral that never degrades. However, since it can absorb moisture, it's recommended to store it in an airtight container.
4. Sugar (white, brown, powdered)
Sugar does not go moldy, but it can harden if exposed to moisture.
5. White vinegar
Good news! White vinegar never deteriorates thanks to its acidity.
6. Cornstarch
Simply store cornstarch in a dry place and it will stay good indefinitely.
7. Dried beans
It's unbelievable, but dried beans can be eaten for decades. However, since they can harden over time, you'll just need to cook them longer to regain their desired texture.
8. Maple syrup
If your jar of maple syrup is properly sealed, it can last for years. Once opened, it should be refrigerated to prevent mold.
9. Instant coffee
Instant coffee retains its taste and properties if stored in a dry environment.
10. Dried pasta
Dried pasta can last for years as long as it is kept away from moisture.
