Mirin, a drink similar to saki but with less alcohol, is also a must-have condiment when cooking Japanese cuisine. Serve steak with Quick Cucumber Pickles (see recipe link below).

In shallow dish, whisk together soy sauce, mirin, sesame oil, ginger and garlic. Trim green onions; add to marinade. Add steak, turning to coat. Cover and refrigerate for 10 minutes or for up to 8 hours.

Pour marinade into small saucepan; bring to boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat and simmer for 3 minutes.

Meanwhile, place steak on greased grill over medium-high heat; close lid and grill, turning once and basting with marinade, until medium-rare, 10 to 12 minutes. Let stand for 5 minutes before slicing across the grain.

Meanwhile, grill onions until tender, about 4 minutes.
