Trim stalks and fronds off fennel. Leaving root end intact, cut into 4 wedges. In large deep skillet (with lid), melt butter over medium heat. Add fennel; cook, turning halfway through cooking time, until golden brown on each side, about 4 minutes. Add juice, broth, maple syrup and garlic; season with salt and pepper. Reduce heat to low, cover and cook until fennel is very tender, 15 to 20 minutes.
