A Dentist's Go-To Trick For Whiter Teeth
On our quest for a dazzling smile, many of us turn to at-home or in-office whitening solutions for help.
If you want to avoid costly (and at times damaging) treatments, there's one simple trick that dentists love: tongue scrapers.
"Adopting this habit helps maintain good oral hygiene and prevent bacteria from spreading," Dr. Gülay Akay explained in Le Journal des Femmes.
These nasty bacteria don't just spread; they accumulate. The result? Cavities, stains, and a less radiant smile.
A quick biology reminder: "On the tongue, there are tiny structures called papillae. It's under these that bacteria reside," says the dentist. "They produce unpleasant odours and create an environment conducive to the formation of dental plaque."
That yellowish tint on your tongue can alter the whiteness of your teeth and, over time, give them a duller appearance.
The best way to get rid of this plaque buildup is to use a tongue scraper. Gently scrape the tool across your tongue from back to front several times.
You can also use your toothbrush to clean your tongue, but be sure to use it softly so as to not get rid the good bacteria.
