Can A ‘Cortisol Cocktail’ Help You Relax?
This viral bedtime drink is more than just a catchy name.
When it comes time to unwind for bed—or just relax in general—it can be hard to turn your mind off. Between the general state of the world and day-to-day happenings, life can be stressful. In turn, your body increases its production of cortisol, AKA the stress hormone.
To curb the effects of this adrenal-spiking hormone, an at-home drink is making its way across the Internet. Dubbed the "cortisol cocktail," or mocktail, this non-alcoholic drink is loaded with ingredients intended to calm your body.
The cortisol cocktail is a mix of coconut water, lemon, orange juice, magnesium, sea salt, and sparkling water. And this concoction isn’t just tasty—it actually has scientific backing behind it.
Coconut water is a good source of magnesium and electrolytes, which keep you hydrated and help your muscles relax. Vitamin C in the lemon and orange juices are known to reduce cortisol, while magnesium supplements help lower blood pressure.
Here’s how to make it at home.
