The Best Herbs & Teas To Help Relieve Menopause Symptoms
While we may not be able to completely halt some of the uncomfortable symptoms of menopause, some herbal remedies can help ease them.
For many, menopause and perimenopause come along with a host of symptoms. From hot flashes and night sweats to joint pain, our bodies undergo some at-times frustrating side effects.
And while it’s best to work with your physician on a personalized health plan, natural remedies can work as complementary supplements.
Some herbs—typically found in teas—can lessen side effects of hormonal changes. These are the ingredients to look out for, plus some of our go-to tea blends.
Herbs that alleviate menopause symptoms
1. Black cohosh
The root of the black cohosh plant is primarily known to reduce hot flashes and night sweats.
2. Red clover
Red clover contains isoflavones, a type of phytoestrogen that can help mimic estrogen in the body. Some studies have found it to be helpful in lessening hot flashes.
3. Lemon balm
Lemon balm, which comes from the mint family, is a relaxing herb that can help promote a better night’s rest.
4. Valerian root
Similar to lemon balm, valerian root is known for its natural sleep aid properties.

5. Dong quai
Dong quai can help improve the intensity and frequency of hot flashes. This is best taken in low doses, such as in a tea blend, as frequent dosage can decrease blood clotting.
6. Ginseng
Ginseng, particularly red ginseng, contains mood-boosting properties and can help reduce hot flashes.
7. Licorice
Licorice not only lessens hot flashes, but it may also improve gastrointestinal issues.
