This Is The Best Time Of Day To Exercise To Live Longer, According To Science

Moving is good. But doing it at the right time might be even better. According to a recent study, the time of day you exercise could play a role in your lifespan.

It's a well-known fact that regular physical activity is one of the best ways to prevent disease and age healthily.

Harvard University emphasizes the importance of a varied routine consisting of different exercises to slow functional aging. These include strength training to prevent muscle loss, balance training to reduce the risk of falls, and flexibility and mobility to maintain a good range of motion. But beyond the type of exercise, another factor deserves our attention: the time of day we move.

The Best Time to Exercise According to Science

According to a study published in the journal Nature and conducted by the Guangdong Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, exercising in the afternoon may maximize longevity benefits. Researchers found that moderate-to-vigorous physical activity between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. is associated with a lower risk of all-cause mortality, including cardiovascular disease and some cancers.

This doesn't mean it's bad to exercise in the morning or evening. Exercise is beneficial no matter the time, but working out during this afternoon time window could offer a few more health benefits.
