Here's Why You Should Limit Your Cheese Consumption After 50

Camembert, cheddar, gouda, Saint-Paulin, brie—we can't get enough! But after a certain age, nutritionists recommend we cut back.

If you're over the age of 50, you might need to change your diet. Some nutritionists believe consuming too much cheese can lead to high blood pressure and cholesterol due to its salt content and high saturated fats.

 

Do I have to cut out cheese altogether?

No! keep enjoying your charcuterie platters, just do so in moderation.

 

How Much cheese can I eat?

An American nutritionist says that if you have good general health and your daily diet is low in saturated fat and sodium, you can have around 50 to 85 grams of cheese a day without any significant strain on your cholesterol. 

However, if you suffer from heart problems, it's important to regulate your cheese consumption to 30 grams per day, or a few times a week.

After age 50, it's important to vary your sources of calcium and look for ones with a high dose, like Greek yogurt or Skyr. Calcium strengthens our bones so we can stay strong as we age.
