A crocheted afghan to curl up in

Crochet some cosy comfort! Make one striped shape at a time, stitch them together and trim with tassels. Designed by Coats Patons Design Studio to be ultra easy, the finished afghan is approx 167 x 148 cm (66 x 58-1/2 ins).

You need:
Choose desired colours from one of these three acrylic yarns as follows:

Patons Canadiana (100 g)
• 10 balls Main Colour (MC)
• 6 balls Contrast Colour P (CCP)
• 6 balls Contrast Colour O (CCO)

OR


Patons Decor (100 g)
• 10 balls Main Colour (MC)
• 6 balls Contrast Colour P (CCP)
• 6 balls Contrast Colour O (CCO)

OR


Bernat Super Value (197 g)
• 5 balls Main Colour (MC)
• 3 balls Contrast Colour P (CCP)
• 3 balls Contrast Colour O (CCO)

5.00 mm crochet hook OR whichever hook you require to produce the tension given below

Tension:
15 sc and 17 rows = 10 cm (4 ins).

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK TENSION.

ch = chain
dec = decrease
g = gram(s)
in(s) = inch(es)
mm = millimetre(s)
rep = repeat
rnds = round(s)
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
yo = yarn over

To make:
SQUARE A (make 42)
**With MC ch 2.
Row 1 (right side): 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Ch 1. Turn.
Row 2: 2 sc in 1st sc. Sc in next sc. 2 sc in last sc. Join CCP. Ch 1. Turn.
Row 3: 2 sc in 1st sc. Sc in each sc to last sc. 2 sc in last sc. Ch 1. Turn.
Rep 3rd row 12 more times, working stripes (2 rows MC/2 rows CCP) throughout. 31 sc in row.**
Row 16: ***Draw up loop in each of 1st 2 sc. Yo and draw through 3 loops on hook (sc dec). Sc in each sc to last 2 sc. Sc dec over last 2 sc. Ch 1. Turn.***
Rep from *** to *** 13 more times, working stripes (2 rows MC/2 rows CCP) throughout. 3 sc in row.
Row 30: Draw up loop in each of 3 sc. Yo and draw through 4 loops on hook. Join CCP. Ch 1. Turn.

Edging
Rnd 1: Work 19 sc along each edge of square and 3 sc in each corner. Sl st to 1st sc. Join MC. Do not turn.
Rnd 2: With MC, sc in each sc of 1st rnd and 3 sc in each corner sc. Sl st to 1st sc. Fasten off.

SQUARE B (make 56)
Work as given for Square A, substituting CCO for CCP.

TRIANGLE C (make 14)
Work from ** to ** as given for Square A.

Edging
Rnd 1: With CCP, sc dec over 1st 2 sc. [Sc in each of next 8 sc. Sc dec over next 2 sc] twice. Sc in each of next 7 sc. Sc dec over next 2 sc. Work 19 sc along 1 short edge of triangle, 3 sc in corner and 19 sc along other short edge. Sl st to 1st sc. Join MC. Do not turn.
Rnd 2: With MC, sc in each sc of 1st rnd and 3 sc in each corner sc. Sl st to 1st sc. Fasten off.

To assemble afghan:
Refer to diagram and, with right sides together and MC, work 1 row of sl st through corresponding back loops of 2nd rnds.

To make fringe:
Cut eight 35.5 cm (14-ins) lengths of MC; pull through and knot at each point of afghan. Trim.
