Easy paper holiday ornaments

Gather up items you already have at home – last year's greeting cards, fancy craft paper, pretty beads and embroidery floss – then see who can come up with the most creative design.

Find a larger photo of these pretty ornaments here.

To make:
• Start by drawing and cutting out two copies of a simple holiday motif (use colouring books or greeting cards for inspiration) from paper. Make each about 10 cm (4 inches) in height.

• Cut a 46 cm (18-inch) length of floss; fold it over at the top end to create a hanger.

• Glue the two motifs together with the floss in between, catching the short end between the pieces of paper and leaving about 12.5 cm (5 inches) of floss extending from the bottom; thread the floss through a darning needle and string with beads, bells and bits of paper cut into small holiday shapes.
