Gimme a Hug Snowman

You'll Need:

6-in Styrofoam ball
Toothpicks
Instant papier-maché
Brush
White acrylic paint
Burnt sienna acrylic paint
Red acrylic paint
Small piece of dry sponge
White craft glue
Two 12 mm diameter black buttons
Awl
10 cm (4-in) twig
Scrap of felt or fleece

To Make:

With your thumbs, flatten a 5 cm (2-in) diameter circle on 6-In Styrofoam ball to form base. Push toothpick halfway into ball at desired position for nose. Following manufacturer's instructions, mix 'instant' papier-maché (such as Celluclay), smooth layer onto ball (except base), then, around toothpick, form carrot-shaped nose. Let dry.

Brush on background coat of white acrylic paint. Let dry. With burnt sienna acrylic paint, paint nose. Dip small piece of dry sponge into red acrylic paint, dab onto cheeks. With white craft glue, glue on two 12 mm diameter black buttons for eyes. With awl, make a series of small holes, approx 13 mm (1/2 in) apart, forming smile line; glue whole cloves into holes. With awl, make hole for arms; push 10 cm (4-in) twig into each hole. From scrap of felt or fleece, cut 4 mitten shapes; with edges even, hand-stitch together in pairs, leaving wrist edges open. Put 1 over end of each arm.
