Make a Chic Handmade Bin in 4 Easy Steps

Be it the living room, the boudoir or the loo, no space is complete without a convenient catchall, like this chic handmade bin.

MATERIALS

• SCISSORS

• Natural-cotton TWINE

• 100 feet of ⅜-inch natural-cotton BRAIDED CORD

• Hot GLUE GUN

• 12-inch-diameter galvanized-metal BUCKET (handles removed)

HOW TO

1 Cut a 1-foot length of twine; wrap it around one end of the cord to prevent it from fraying.

Knot the twine to secure; trim the remainder.

2 To create the base of the basket, coil the twine-wrapped end of the cord into a disc, applying a thin strip of hot glue on the inner side as you go. Continue coiling and gluing until the base is as wide as the bottom of the bucket.

3 Place the bucket on top of the cord base (to serve as a guide to form the basket’s shape). Working from the bottom up, wrap the cord around the bucket, gluing each new layer to the previous one as you go. Continue wrapping and gluing until you reach the top of the bucket; leave the last foot of cord unglued. Carefully slide the bucket out.

4 Knot the cord close to where you finish gluing. Cut a 1-foot length of twine; wrap it around the cord’s end to prevent it from fraying. Knot the twine to secure; trim the remainder.
