Everything You Need To Survive Allergy Season

Spring (and pollen!) is in the air.

As Canadians, there’s nothing more rejuvenating than the sun coming back out in the spring. Birds are chirping, flowers are blooming, and grass is growing. But along with the springtime growth comes all the allergens.

Here’s everything you need to feel your best this allergy season.

When it comes to pollen, dust, and other unwanted particles floating around come spring, experts agree that keeping the air in your home clean is a top priority for allergy relief. Portable air purifiers are an easy way to filter unwanted particles in specific rooms in your home. Add a small one to your desk or nightstand and a larger versions in high-traffic spaces.

You might also consider getting your air ducts professionally cleaned and replacing air filters for a squeaky-clean boost.

Reduce exposure to allergens

You may not be able to fully escape pollen-ridden air, but you can try to limit your exposure. On days with particularly high pollen counts—check your local weather station—try to reduce time spent outside. Keep your windows and doors closed to keep allergens out and consider turning on the A/C if things are feeling stuffy.

While the warm weather can be a great time to dry your laundry outside, throwing it in the dryer will prevent extra allergens from accumulating on your linens and clothes.

Take an antihistamine

If your allergies are still getting you down, it may be time to break out some medication. Try an over-the-counter antihistamine such as Reactine to alleviate symptoms. Your doctor may be able to prescribe a higher-dose antihistamine or further treatment options if you need it.
