5 Best Hotels in Las Vegas

Place your bets on the best hotel in Las Vegas For my money, I say the best Las Vegas hotel is the the Trump Tower. It's officially off-the-strip (even if only by an extra 10-minute walk) but its biggest selling point, for me anyway, is that there's no on-site casino. I visited Las Vegas last spring on a whim. I booked an amazing flight-and-hotel package through Orbitz and wound up at the Trump, which I assumed would be out of my budget range. But that's the beauty of discount sites such Orbitz, and it's one of the biggest benefits when you book hotel and flight together, which I rarely do. Las Vegas is popular with Canadians, and Canadian Living readers are no different. So we polled our readers for their favourite Las Vegas hotels, and then we asked researcher Natasha Singh to give us the goods on what's to brag about at each of these five reader favourites. Linda, Toronto: Favourite Vegas hotel: MGM Grand Hotel and Casino Bragging rights: In addition to top notch musical acts coming to the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino later this year, Justin Bieber and Beyonce both in June, there’s always a little of that old school Las Vegas tradition to love. Yes, the wedding chapel — you can get married at the MGM Grand, but this is no quickie ceremony to immediately annul the next day. They offer not one but two chapels, gourmet catering, customized floral arrangements and experienced wedding planners. Just remember, what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas. Christina, from Hamilton. Favourite Vegas Hotel: Mandalay Bay Bragging rights: On top of being a cool Las Vegas hotel, Mandalay Bay Bay offers a “Dive with Sharks” program that is exactly what it sounds like, an awesome and not at all terrifying underwater adventure. Certified divers can book a time to dive in their aquarium with seven different species of sharks, two species of stingray and a variety of fish. You also get a professional video of your dive, so you never forget that look on your face (whatever it might be).  (N.S.)   Chris, Vancouver. Favourite Vegas Hotel: Wynn Resort and Casino Bragging rights: What this hotel might lack in terms of shows and events, it makes up for in its commitment to equality. Wynn Resort and Casino was one of the first hotel and casinos in Las Vegas to offer same sex domestic partner benefits to their employees. They are committed to the LGBT community and are an equal opportunity employer. More telling about a company is not how they treat their customers but how they treat their employees. (N.S.) Terry and Terri, Calgary: Favourite Vegas Hotel: Bellagio Bragging rights: For those of you who maintained a love for art beyond grade school (my macaroni masterpieces would have blown you away) there is Andy Warhol. The Bellagio will be exhibiting the largest collection of Warhol’s work ever shown in Las Vegas. Made up of paintings, sculptures and film, there are more than 60 pieces on display, including his celebrity and self-portrait paintings.  (N.S.) Marie-Eve, Montreal:Favourite Vegas Hotel: Luxor Las Vegas Bragging rights: The Luxor Las Vegas offers a variety of shows and exhibitions (as most hotels in Las Vegas do) however they offer some interesting options for not leaving your room. Classified under the “amenities” section is the option to book a “custom in-room boudoir” photo shoot. The photographer, Deidra Wilson, will come to your room with her (all-female) team who do makeup, hair and wardrobe and you get your pictures the next day. Sorry gents, it’s only available for female guests but you can always catch the Carrot Top show. (N.S.)
