5 Valentine's Day date ideas for new couples

Today we’re turning things over to our intern Erin Cassidy: Valentine’s Day comes with a lot of pressure – the gifts, the restaurant and the frills. The truth of the matter is that it doesn’t have to be so stressful! Especially if this is your first Valentine's Day with your special someone. So why not take the pressure off by trying one of these simple, yet über romantic, things with your partner. 1. Cook together Nothing says romance better than cooking together with your special someone. It lets you connect in a fun new way, and you'll also end up with a (hopefully) delicious dish for dinner. Cooking together can be sexy, especially if you choose a dish that will set the mood -- perhaps consider one of our 8 aphrodisiacs? Have a little fun with the taste test portion of the evening as well. Who knows, you might have a Lady and the Tramp moment! 2. Snuggle up and watch a movie Snuggle up together on the couch and watch a romantic flick. Nothing says romance like a time-tested romantic comedy or chick-flick. Break out the popcorn, dim the lights and grab a throw-blanket. As you snuggle up, you and your date will fall in love along with the characters on your screen. What a cute way to end a great evening. 3. Go for an evening skating Strap those laces on, we’re going skating! Head on down to the local rink and take a few leisurely laps with your loved one, hand-in-hand. Maybe the local rink is outdoors like mine! What a perfect chance to find even more similarities between you and your partner – maybe you’re both super clumsy! Get outside and create fun memories together. Another idea is to join in with other couples and have a skating party. Make sure to pack some of our delicious skating party foods! 4. Warm up and chat over a hot chocolate Visit a local coffee shop -- consider a gourmet one, rather than the chains, for ambiance and mood. Order two hot chocolates to warm up and grab the comfy armchairs in the back. This calls for an extra pump of whipped cream! 5. Play fun and romantic games together Spice things up by taking a sexy spin on a tried and true board game. Or perhaps you can have fun with a game of strip poker or dirty Jenga. Ranging from something fairly innocent to the most risqué, find something that appeals to both of you. This is a great way to lighten things up and discover a new aspect to your relationship. If these ideas don't tickle your fancy, consider one of these five new ways to celebrate Valentine's Day, or perhaps even one of these best budget-friendly date ideas. Whatever you do, make sure it's something you both will enjoy and look back on with fond memories. Image: ©iStockphoto.com/aldomurillo
