Awesome app: Scan & Store from Mabel's Labels

True mom confession: One of the worst mornings I had last fall was when a sudden cold snap sent me down to the basement to look for a toddler-sized hat (why, oh why do babies' heads expand seemingly overnight?) and ended up kicking several boxes around and using a word that I later had to remind my 7-year-old not to use in polite company. It's one of the little things about having a 5-year gap between kids. I am not far enough removed from my older son's childhood to completely forget that I have a really cute moose hat of the right size in the basement, and yet it has been long enough that I have no idea where I actually put it. Apparently my labeling skills that year were limited to "18 mos - 2T" which tells me just about nothing. But this new app from one of my favourite Canadian success stories, Mabel's Labels, looks like it is a game-changer. You put one of the special scannable labels on your box, and use an iPhone app to track what's inside - you can even do it with pictures. Now that's an awesome spring cleaning tool. (We've got more suggestions right here.) Here's what it looks like: Where to find the Write Away app: The iTunes store. (It's free.) Where to find the labels: 18 for $12, online at Mabel's Labels or shop in person at your local Walmart Canada store. Since I'm mentioning Mabel's Labels, I'm going to share why I love this mom-created company. Remember I noted that my kids are 5 years apart? The Tag Mates™ on my older son's school uniforms are still just fine. Of course my youngest, Liam, is starting to think "Liam" is spelled N-o-a-h, but...that's a whole other issue.
