Do you know any inspiring kids? Nominate them for a Me to We award!

Do you know what I find really inspiring? The self-confidence, enthusiasm and energy of youth. Every year, when I attend Me to We Day, I am filled with hope and encouragement that there are so many young people that want to make a difference in their world. It’s a crazy day – all about amazing speakers, unbelievable stories, and screaming teens. [HTML1] My favourite part is that Canadian Living sponsors Me to We Awards to honour caring, compassionate Canadians whose efforts (big and small!) are improving the lives of others. Different categories honour local heroes in the community; individuals who are addressing social, economic, political or environmental issues that affect Canadians; youth (including a category for 12 and under); and even Canadian educators. We go through all of the nominations, and sometimes they make us cry. Not because we are sad. Not because we despair. Not because we just want to throw in the towel. But because we are full of hope that in this country, people are really starting to realize that we can make a difference. The last time Craig Kielburger was in our office, it was just after the New Year. We we chatting about what the year would bring, and Craig's hope was this: “Let us hope that we find a passion bigger than ourselves to care about.” And that is what Me to We day is all about for me, Canadians celebrating a passion greater than ourselves – for the love of humanity. I believe that taking action is the first step. No matter how small that step, it's better than standing still. And it starts right here: pick someone you know is doing something great for others. And nominate her or him for a Me to We award. And FYI, here are the rules and regulations. And yes, it's really that simple. It starts here, with you.
