Pink Shirt Day: Interview with a Kid

pink shirt It’s  Pink Shirt Day today. What exactly does that mean? I sat down with an eight year old. Here’s what she said… What is Pink Shirt Day? Pink Shirt Day is when every kid… uhmm… not just kids, adults too – wear pink to say you shouldn’t bully because it’s bad. Do you know how Pink Shirt Day got started? I don’t know why they chose the colour pink. Oh wait, I know why. There was this one kid in Nova Scotia that was getting bullied because he wore pink and then some kids got their own money and bought pink t-shirts and gave them to everybody. How does a kid that is being bullied feel? It makes them feel bad…like nobody wants to play with them and they feel alone all the time and they never get to play with anybody. Have you ever seen anyone at school get bullied? No, I haven’t seen anybody but I bet you there are people that do get bullied all the time. What would you do if you saw someone get bullied? I would help them. How? I would tell my teacher and then I would make him/her feel better by telling him/her “Don’t worry about them. You don’t need to be their friend” and if it was recess time, I would play with him/her. Will you be wearing pink on Pink Shirt Day? Oh YES!
