Travel Diva's Breakfast

Feel like channelling your inner Diva while on the road? If you can't indulge yourself while travelling, then when can you? One of my indulgences (which I can't seem to make happen on my home turf) is enjoy a leisurely breakfast that's original, tasty and leaves me feeling like I've treated myself to something special. On my last visit to Vancouver (a mix of work and pleasure) I was invited to breakfast with a friend who was staying in another hotel across town. Why not, I thought, a guy's got to eat. So I cut across town early on a Sunday morning, working in a refreshing speed walk through Stanley Park (nothing like the smell of the ocean to kick-start your day) to the Metropolitan Hotel Vancouver to have breakfast in the signature restaurant, Diva at the Met. In short: breakfast made – and consumed – in heaven! Buttermilk pancakes I don't know about you, but butter milk pancakes at my house looking nothing like this. I wiped the plate clean (the berry compote didn't stand a chance)  and was glad I had made time beforehand for that calorie-burning walk. It turns out that resident Vancouverites agree with me. I later discovered that the local blogger Food Vancouver listed the butter milk and berry compote entry as one of their top 20 breakfasts in Vancouver. So keep the Metropolitan Hotel Vancouver on your list – especially the butter milk pancake. They've got lots of other enticing meals on the breakfast menu but I don't think you could go wrong with the butter milk pancakes. Oh, and they've also got one of the best baristas in town – I had a kick-butt machiato.) I'm not sure if the meal transformed me into a diva, but it sure as heck made me happy as a clam. Have you had a breakfast on holiday that can top this?
