How to pick the perfect gift for your father

Father's Day is the perfect opportunity to treat your dad to something he wouldn't ordinarily buy for himself -- a top-quality shirt, high-end bottle of liquor or a cool new gadget.

How to pick the perfect gift for your father
1. Sports gifts for dad
If you're shopping for a sports nut, consider taking Dad to a game or buying him his favourite team's latest jersey. Just don't go logo-crazy: Not everything with a NHL decal is necessarily worth buying.

2. Foodie gifts for dad
Foodie fathers might appreciate a new cookbook or trip to a new restaurant. If you're feeling gutsy, visit the grocery store and pick out a bunch of off-beat or fancy ingredients, then challenge Dad to use as many as he can in one meal -- and stick around to see how it turns out.

3. Tech gifts for dad
Gadget junkies and car lovers alike will be delighted by any new tools you can throw at them. You might have to do a little digging to find out what they don't have yet, but it's worth it if you can find something they're missing. Also consider what they might like to replace, but can't quite justify themselves, such as an out-of-date GPS.

4. Olympics-themed gifts for dad
This summer promises to be a great one for sports fans, as we near the start date of the 2012 London Olympics. If your father will be watching, you can help him show his Canadian spirit with this year's Olympic team gear from HBC.

Finally, if your dad just needs to relax this summer, give him the extra nudge he needs by buying him a great chair for the backyard, a floating mat for the pool or cottage and a great book, especially if it's one you've read and loved already yourself.
