What Is A Grandma Shower?
How should we celebrate soon-to-be-grandparents?
You might be used to receiving an invite to a bridal shower or a baby shower—two big occasions that help welcome in a new era of someone's life. But, have you ever been asked to attend a grandma shower?
The idea is that grandparents-to-be hold a gathering to celebrate the start of their new role. There can be cake, games, and gendering guessing—just like a new parent's party. The registry is where things get a little sticky.
Traditionally, gifts at baby showers are intended to help young and first-time parents begin their new journey and alleviate the financial pressure that starting a family can bring.
There's currently a debate online over whether grandma showers should include gifts at all. In a TikTok video from DeeDeeMoore's More Than Grand account, she says, "It’s harder to justify a shower for a grandmother who can likely afford most of the things she needs and probably won’t need that many things to begin with.”
We love the idea of getting together with friends and family to celebrate grandparents-to-be, and that can include a small token, but if you have money to spare for a gift, it might go further given to the new parents. If you feel like you really want to get grandma something, a diaper bag or car seat could help both parties. When in doubt, ask the new parents how they feel about it all.
