The cultural zeitgeist plays a big role in what we choose to name our pets.

This year, online pet services company Rover looked at new pets added to its database of over one million cats and dogs to see which names are on the rise. They found that food, sports, and pop culture influence what we choose to call our animals, and so does the province.

Sports-inspired names are always a go-to for new pet owners, and this year was no different. Sid, Serena, Lebron, and Bobby all made the top five for cats and dogs.

Canadian-Made

In 2025, we all took a step back to make sure we celebrated Canadian-made goods. New pet owners took the same patriotic, naming their cats and dogs Delphine, Bijoux, and Nakoda.
