Founder Theresa Paul designs hundreds of stylish leather accessories, including these durable pretty slippers in a style inspired by her childhood experiences helping her mother and grandmother with embroidery. Comfort, function, style and ethics are what put these slippers on our wish lists this year.

If you’ll be in Toronto before March 19, 2023, you’ve got to check out renowned Cree artist Kent Monkman’s major solo exhibition, Being Legendary, at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). Monkman’s body of work includes 35 new paintings, our favourite being Battle of the piyêsiwak and the misipisiwak (right), as well as sculptures and etchings. The exhibition is inspired by the cultural belongings that exist in the museum’s permanent collections. The artist says his goal is to “convey the incredible depth and richness of Indigenous existence on Turtle Island…
I want to emphasize the power of Indigenous peoples in keeping many of our cultures, histories and knowledge systems intact and pay tribute to all those involved in reviving our languages and cultural practices.” Goal beautifully met.
