BEYOND BALLET FLATS

Based in Rockwood, Ont., Hides in Hand is a leather goods company with a mandate we can get behind. Why? Simple—it makes use of hides gathered by local, licenced hunters. Founder Theresa Paul designs hundreds of stylish leather accessories, including these durable pretty slippers in a style inspired by her childhood experiences helping her mother and grandmother with embroidery. Comfort, function, style and ethics are what put these slippers on our wish lists this year.

MEANINGFUL ART

If you’ll be in Toronto before March 19, 2023, you’ve got to check out renowned Cree artist Kent Monkman’s major solo exhibition, Being Legendary, at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). Monkman’s body of work includes 35 new paintings, our favourite being Battle of the piyêsiwak and the misipisiwak (right), as well as sculptures and etchings. The exhibition is inspired by the cultural belongings that exist in the museum’s permanent collections. The artist says his goal is to “convey the incredible depth and richness of Indigenous existence on Turtle Island…

LUXURY IN THE KITCHEN

Fresh, clean and spiced just right, this coriander and lime scented hand soap and cream duo is just one of the many gorgeous scents you can source from Montreal-based company Dans un Jardin. If something sweeter is more your style, try the Peach Cream or the Lavender Vanilla. Whatever you choose, a little luxury in your hand washing experience is guaranteed.
