An inside look at World MasterCard Fashion Week: Day 3

My day three highlights from Toronto Fashion week included going backstage and getting the low down on the beauty looks from Mackage and Joe Fresh, borrowing an uber-luxurious baby alpaca fuchsia cape and making googly eyes at Joffrey Lupul from across the runway. All in all it was a pretty awesome day.   [caption id="attachment_10491" align="aligncenter" width="382"] The Canadian Living team representing backstage at WMCFW.[/caption]   All three of us ( myself, our editor-in-chief Jen Reynolds and Andrea Karr) were all wearing Canadian designers last night. I'm rocking this stunning, and insanely soft, Sentaler baby alpaca caplet that was lent to me from the designer herself to don during fashion week. We also included one of her beautiful  pieces in out November coat feature. Her designs are elegant and the construction is exquisitely executed. Jen is wearing the swing coat in poppy from Smythe's F/W13 collection. Unfortunately Andrea didn't get the memo (or more likely I forgot to send her one) about wearing Canadian outerwear to the shows last night but she was representing on the accessories front. Her ring is from jewellery designer Rebekah Price and her bag is the Aden Shopper Bag from  Mackage's fall/winter 2013 collection.   [caption id="attachment_10504" align="aligncenter" width="396"] Mackage beauty by Grace Lee, Lead Makeup Artist, Maybelline New York Canada. The makeup message was street-savy cool girl. "Mackage is really cool, urban and sophisticated so we wanted something to reflect that," says Lee. To play off their metallized spring collection silver was added to the beauty look. "Silver metallic is pretty, it really makes an impact on the runway," she says. Using Maybelline New York Eye Studio Master Liner in Made of Steel she lined the water line and extended it out. “I'm calling it the reverse cat eye," she adds. The rest of the look was very minimal but still polished — the overall look struck the perfect balance of punk and prep school.   [caption id="attachment_10506" align="aligncenter" width="394"] Nails by Essie for Mackage. Photo Credit: Jake Rosenberg[/caption]   Check out these way cool nails created by the very talented Rita Remark,  Essie Canada’s Lead Nail Artist. I had a sneak peek of them earlier on in the week, they're soft pink with chromed out tips and a matte finish.   [caption id="attachment_10507" align="aligncenter" width="507"] Mackage S/S14; Photos by George Pimentel Photography[/caption]   These are some of my top picks from the Mackage show. Love the blush leather vest and orange leather motto jacket but I'm even more into the army green khaki jacket with chromed out sleeves. Well played.   [caption id="attachment_10511" align="aligncenter" width="462"] You know you're Canadian when you freak out over a hockey player sighting at a fashion show. The Leafs left wing Joffrey Lupul was sitting across from me at the Joe Fresh S/S14 show.[/caption]   I saw a whole new side to my editor, Jen Reynolds, during the Joe Fresh show last night. She was giddy, blushing and had a smile from ear to ear when she spotted number 19 from The Toronto Maple Leafs sitting directly in front of her. Turns out she's a Joffrey Lupul super fan, however I admit I was the slightest bit giddy, too.   [caption id="attachment_10510" align="aligncenter" width="401"] Joe Fresh models storming the catwalk in their S/S14 garb[/caption]   Finally the main event of the evening, the Joe Fresh Spring show. The brand's signature orange is taking a backseat this season. Based on this collection it’s evident that Joe is going through his blue period. A majority of the styles were found in rich navy blue hues done in cool finishes like sleek silks, patent leather and shiny reptilian embossed fabrics. Styles were diverse; I saw everything from dresses, trench coats, suiting and mini skirts. I have no doubt that this collection is sure to be a winner with the masses of Joe Fresh fans.
