In recent years I've noticed a theme in fashion that keeps cropping up. It's now OK, in fact encouraged, to break the rules of styling. We saw life after Labour Day for white garments, mixing different denim and donning it from head-to-toe, clashing different floral prints, navy teamed up with black and now the latest rebellious fashion styling (which I'm loving) is pairing plaid and stripes.
While there's often a nautical vibe associated with stripes, when teamed up with a cozy tartan piece the linear look get's a whole new lease on life, feeling a little more bohemian and rich.
Still unsure if you're keen on this odd couple? Here are two different ways of rocking the look—try a little or try a lot!
Style tip: If the thought of wearing a buffalo check plaid jacket and a navy and white striped dress is blowing your mind—but no in the good way—try something a little more subdued. Wearing a black and white striped shirt and midi plaid skirt lessens the contrast. Give the look a bit a edge with a chic faux leather moto jacket and sleek booties.

Style tip: If you're fashion risk taker or just in the mood to try a bold look, pair a midi or maxi striped knit frock with a plaid jacket or caplet. Dress the look up for an evening out with a pair of statement earrings and sleek suede pumps. For a more casual vibe swap out the jacket for a plaid blanket and switch the heels for a pair of oxfords or simple black runners.
