For lit-from-within radiance, mix your foundation with a pea-size drop of
liquid highlighter, then add blush. “A warm pinky-beige can look more natural and is easy to blend for a healthy glow,” says Grace Lee, lead artist for Maybelline New York.
Lip colours ranging from cherry to burgundy rocked the Fall 2018 runways. Lee likens choosing a red lippie to selecting a red wine. “You start with a Pinot and work your way up to a Merlot—a little more deep and rich,” she says. To avoid looking goth, Lee suggests keeping the remainder of your makeup simple, with fresh skin and almost-bare eyes.
Swapping vivid lilac for sooty black instantly softens a smoky eye. If you’re looking to bling it on—after all, it is the holidays—choose a purple eyeshadow with major sparkle or use your fingers to press micronized glitter over top of your regular shadow. Take it a step further by decking out your nails with a chunky-sparkle polish.
There’s a reason exaggerated eyelashes are the beauty signature of icons such as Twiggy and Diana Ross: They can transform any look. And a holiday bash is the perfect occasion. Wear them with dewy skin and a vivid stamp of fuchsia lipstick. Lee suggests using a long-wearing lip formula if you’re going to be sipping on cocktails.
If trends aren’t your jam, maybe a timeless look speaks to you. For swoon-worthy style, match your lips to your tips. The retro esthetic of coordinating vivid red finishes creates a powerful beauty statement. Contrast textures by choosing a glossy red manicure and a matte lip.
