Perhaps it's the breathtaking peachy tone of Ellie Kemper's J. Mendel dress, or it could be the delicate and feminine shape—which almost seems retro—but I can't get enough of this whole look. Samira Wiley in Jenny Packham

It wouldn't be a red carpet without a bit of sparkle, so thank goodness Samira Wiley brought it in spades with her Jenny Packham gown. What I especially love is how the dress is a deceptively simple shape, but manages to look incredibly luxe and daring thanks to a plunging neckline and, of course, a hefty dose of showstopping sparkle. Luckily, Wiley brought her kilowatt smile to match her bright ensemble.- AD

Michelle Dockery in Carolina Herrera

Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery, known for playing Lady Mary in the hit TV show, chose one of the most memorable looks of the night. She wore a dreamy, strapless, powder blue tulle gown with a dramatic floral pattern across the front. The Carolina Herrera dress cinched her waist in perfectly and was flowy in all the right places. - JM

Jessica Biel in Ralph and Russo

There's something very architectural about Jessica Biel's Ralph and Russo gown (which is the designer who also supplied Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle with her engagement dress). The folds of the dress paired with geometric shapes on the fabric all lend a little bit of modernity to what is an otherwise incredibly feminine frock. - AD

Mary Steenburgen with Ted Danson

The real show-stoppers were the duos who showed up on the carpet together. One of our favourite power couples were Mary Steenburgen and Ted Danson. The couple of 23-years walked hand-in-hand down the golden carpet. The star of Last Man on Earth wore a brocade patterned suit with blush accents and a killer blunt bob. As far as we’re considered she won for the chicest outfit of the evening. - JM

Scarlett Johansson in Balmain

Johansson's Balmain dress could not fit any better if it tried. The draping at her waist is perfection, the plunging neckline is edgy without actually being showy and the colour (or lack thereof) keeps things simple and fresh. I also loved that she went with touselled hair and simple makeup—the whole look gives off an air of effortlessness, even if we know that's likely far from true. - AD

Vanessa Kirby in Tom Ford

Vanessa Kirby nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role on The Crown looked like a vintage Hollywood vision in a light pink form-fitted Tom Ford gown. The actor, who played Princess Margaret on seasons one and two of The Crown somehow managed to look sexy, elegant and cool all at the same time. Well done! - JM

Letitia Wright in Coach

Twenty-four year old Letitia Wright looks absolutely stunning in this layered dress from Coach. The champagne-colour is elegant and sophisticated, but this dress also seems to be easy and fun. I love the sheer neckline which she made sure was on display thanks to a gorgeous half-updo, and the delicate detailing throughout this showstopping piece. - AD

Sarah Paulson in Oscar de la Renta

The best thing about Sarah Paulson on a red carpet is that you never know if you're going to get a highlighter green Prada look or a neutral Oscar de la Renta look like this one. She is constantly keeping us on our toes. Luckily, she looks amazing in almost anything she puts on. Don't confuse this dress for something safe though—the skirt is adorned with feathers and while there's been no shortage of plunging necklines tonight, Paulson's might just take the cake. - AD

Thandie Newton in Brandon Maxwell

Thandie Newton won on the red carpet and on the Emmy stage! The best supporting actress winner stunned in this Brandon Maxwell asymmetical gown that is quite possibly the most perfect shade of pink. In a sea of shimmering finishes and textures like tulle, Newton stood out for her saturated pop of colour. Well done! - AD
