Guest Post: Nadine's Pom-Pom Garland

Hello friends,

Today I'm pleased to welcome another guest blogger. Nadine is one-half of Balkan Style – a multi-talented crafter (you might remember her free Newfie mitten pattern) who's here today to share a cute-and-easy way to decorate your home for the holidays. Take it away, Nadine.

I love to decorate my mantle according to the time of year , and with Christmas quickly approaching, I realized it needed a garland pronto.   And why not confront my fear of pom-poms simultaneously?   So began my quest to adorn the mantle with winter.

I gathered odd balls of white and cream coloured yarn to simulate snowballs.   I used this tutorial to make the pom-poms.   To make the smaller pom-poms, I used two fingers, and I used four fingers to make the large pom-poms.   You can make a lot of pom-poms while sipping back hot chocolate and watching Christmas movies – I pom-pom-ed my way through Love Actually and ElfEasy peasy lemon squeezy.

Next up, I found a ball of white cotton crochet thread that had lofty dreams of becoming lacey pillowcase trimming many moons ago, and I threaded a sharp tapestry needle onto the end, and in the most random fashion, I started stringing on the pom-poms.

To hang my snowball pom-pom garland on the mantle, I have recklessly anchored one end to a stone bird and the other end under a heavy crystal apothecary jar.   To be on the “safe” side, I’ve also threatened the children with their lives if they touch it.   I’m pretty certain that there’s a better way to secure the garland, but I’m pretty lazy like that.  (See the four hours of movie-watching above.)

Happy holidays!

Thanks so much, Nadine. I'll be making one of these fabulous garlands this weekend, that's for sure! And pop by next Wednesday for another post from Nadine.
