Designer Gianni Maanaki opens haute couture atelier in Vancouver, BC

Gianni Maanaki Gown

Today, Lebanese fashion designer Gianni Maanaki announced the opening of his new haute couture Atelier in downtown Vancouver. Renowned for creating one-of-a-kind fashions for the royal families of Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Qatar (as well as various celebrities from the Middle East), Maanaki, settled in Vancouver since 2012, has turned to North America to further showcase his luxurious couture gowns.

Born and raised in Lebanon, Maanaki opened his first workshop at 18, and by 24 was an integral part of the Lebanese fashion milieu. Influenced by Hollywood glamour but also Middle Eastern sensibilities, his body-conscious designs incorporate vibrant colours, beautiful fabrics, and spectacular beading and crystal work. For the designer, custom couture always begins with the body as inspiration, with an aim to reveal a woman’s unique beauty. Maanaki is involved in every step of the process. “I do everything from A to Z—cutting, sewing, tailoring, everything,” he says. “It’s crucial that I work in this way while also having the support of my team because I want to ensure we go above and beyond the client’s expectations, especially if she has a special event or occasion to dress for.” Located at 800 West Pender in Vancouver’s upscale shopping district, the appointment-only Atelier offers a complete experience for those wanting to commission a gown. Clients are first invited to consult privately with Maanaki. After the consultation he sketches a design with the client’s style and requests in mind. The gown is then painstakingly constructed, and after several fittings, the one-of-a-kind garment is complete. The price tag? Anywhere from $1,500 to $15,000. With his 30 years of experience, Maanaki’s specialty remains women’s evening wear. That said, he has also crafted a ready-to-wear collection, professional clothing for both men and women, that clients are invited to browse through during Atelier appointments. Without a doubt, this exciting designer is a unique and welcome edition to the Vancouver fashion scene. Photo courtesy CNW Group/Gianni Maanaki
