To make:

Note: When knitting border and snowflake patterns, it will be necessary to break CC yarn several times to bring yarn to correct end of needle. Work the coloured design by carrying yarn not in use loosely across back of work but never over more than 3 sts. Over more than 3 sts, weave it over and under colour in use on next st or at centre point of sts it passes over. When changing colours, in order to prevent a hole, pass colour to be used under and around to right of colour just used.

Back
With smaller needles and MC, cast on 76(86,98,i08,118)sts. Work 6 cm (2-1/4 ins) in [k1, p1] ribbing, inc 5 sts evenly across last row. 81(91,103,113,123)sts now on needle. Change to larger needles and, beg with a k row, work in St st, following rows 1 to 30 of Front/Back Graph.

Continue rep rows 21 to 30 (dot pattern) until work from beg measures 29(35,38,42,45) cm/11-1/2(13-3/4,15,16-1/2,17-3/4) ins, or desired length to underarm, ending after completing row 27(23,21,29,27).

To shape armhole:
Continuing to work from graph, dec 1 st each at end of next and following 3 alternate rows. 73(83,95,105,115)sts now on needle.

Work even to top of graph. Place sts on st holders as follows: First 17(19,23,26,31)sts for shoulder, next 39(45,49,53,53)sts for back neckband and rem 17(19,23,26,31) sts for second shoulder.

Front
Work as for Back to top of snowflake pattern, ending with row of MC as indicated on graph.

To shape neck:
Pattern 23(28,32,35,40)sts, place rem sts on stitch holder, turn. Cast off 2(3,3,3,3)sts at neck edge on next and following 2 alternate rows. 17(19,23,26,31)sts now on needle. Work even on these sts to top of graph. Place these sts on st holder for shoulder. Break yarn, leaving 42 cm (16-1/2-in) length of CC for grafting later.

Return to sts on stitch holder at front neck shaping. With right side of work facing, leave centre 27(27, 31,35,35)sts on stitch holder. Rejoin yarn to rem sts and complete as for first shoulder.

Sleeves
With smaller needles and MC, cast on 34(38,40,44,48)sts. Work 6 cm in [k1,p1] ribbing, inc 13(13,11,9,7)sts evenly across last row. 47(51,51,53,55)sts now on needle. Change to larger needles and, beg with a k row, work in St st, following rows 1 to 30 of Bottom Sleeve Graph. At same time, inc 1 st at each end of needle on fifth, then every following fourth row. 61(65,65,67,69)sts now on needle. Continue rep rows 21 to 30 (dot pattern) and inc as established (work additional sts in dot pattern at each end of needle as you inc) until 67(75,75,81,89)sts on needle and row 22(30,30,30,30) of dot pattern has been completed. Continue working from Top Sleeve Graph, inc as established to 75(85,87,91,95)sts on needle. Work even to top of graph. Cast off loosely.

To graft right shoulder:
Slip sts for right front and right back shoulder onto larger needles. Hold 2 needles parallel with wrong sides of work together. Using tapestry needle and length of CC yarn left on front, work as follows: *Pass tapestry needle knitways through first st on front needle, draw yarn through st and slip off needle. Pass tapestry needle purlways through second st on front needle and draw yarn through, leaving st on needle. Pass tapestry needle purlways through first st on back needle, draw yarn through and slip st off needle. Pass tapestry needle knitways through second st on back needle and draw yarn through, leaving st on needle.

Rep from * until all sts have been worked off.

Neckband
With smaller needles and MC, and with right side facing, pick up and k 12 sts down left front of neck, k across sts from front stitch holder, pick up and k 12 sts up right front of neck, k across sts from back stitch holder (neckband sts only). 90(96,104,112,112)sts now on needle. Work 8 cm (3-1/4 ins) in [k1,p1l] ribbing. Cast off loosely in ribbing.

To finish:
Weave in yarn ends on wrong side of work. Pin pieces to measurements and steam lightly through a damp cloth, taking care not to press ribbing. Sew left shoulder, then neckband seam. Turn neckband to inside and sew cast-off edge loosely to first row of ribbing. Sew sleeves to armholes. Sew side and sleeve seams.
