Needles
• Pair of size 6 (4mm) knitting needles
• Pair of size 8 (5mm) knitting needles, or size to obtain correct gauge
• Size 6 (4mm) circular knitting needle

Extras
• 2-1/4yd/2m of 45"/115cm-wide fabric for lining (optional)

Gauge
16 sts and 23 rows to 4"/10cm measured over St st chart pattern using size 8 (5mm) needles. Note: To save time, take time to check gauge.

Special chart note
When reading St st chart, read all odd-numbered RS (knit) rows from right to left and all even-numbered WS (purl) rows from left to right. Use the intarsia technique, using a separate length of yarn for each area of colour and twisting yarns together on WS where they meet to avoid holes.
To avoid weaving in lots of loose ends when knitting is complete, weave in ends on WS of knitting when joining in and cutting off yarns.

To make stole
Using size 6 (4mm) needles and yarn P, cast on 117 sts.
Work 4 rows in garter st (K every row), ending with a WS row.
Change to size 8 (5mm) needles.
Beg with a K row and chart row 1, work in patt foll chart as foll:
Work chart rows 1-324 once, then rep chart rows 1-111 again, ending with a RS row.
Cut off all constrasting yarns and join in yarn P.
Change to size 6 (4mm) needles.
Next row (WS): P to end.
Rep last row twice more.
Bind off purlwise (on RS).

To finish
Block stole.
Side borders: With RS facing and using size 6 (4mm) circular needle and yarn P, pick up and knit 306 sts evenly along one row-end edge.
Work 2 rows in garter st, ending with a RS row.
Bind off knitwise (on WS).
Work other side border in same way.
For lining, cut fabric to same size as knitting, adding a 1/2"/1.5cm seam allowance all around edge. Then fold under seam allowance all around edge of lining and sew to knitting with wrong sizes together.
