  • 4 cups 4cupspitted fresh sweet cherrysweet cherries
  • 2 cups 2cupsdiced peeled appleapples
  • 1/3 cup 1/3cupgranulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp 2tbspall purpose flour
  • 2 tsp 2tsplemon juice
  • whipped cream, optional


  • 1 cup 1cupall purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup 3/4cupchopped blanched almondalmonds
  • 2/3 cup 2/3cuppacked brown sugar
  • 1 tsp 1tspgrated lemon rind
  • 1/3 cup 1/3cupmelted butter

In bowl, combine cherries, apples, sugar, flour and lemon juice; pour into greased 8-inch (2 L) square glass baking dish. Set aside.

Topping: Mix together flour, almonds, sugar and lemon rind; drizzle butter over top. Stir until crumbly. Sprinkle evenly over fruit mixture.

Bake in centre of 350°F (180°C) oven for 45 to 60 minutes or until bubbly, topping is golden and fruit is tender. Serve with scoop of whipped cream (if using). Makes 6 servings.
