Ingredients

  • 4 cups pitted fresh sweet cherries
  • 2 cups diced peeled apples
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • Whipped cream, optional
  • Topping
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup chopped blanched almonds
  • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp grated lemon rind
  • 1/3 cup melted butter

Preparation

In bowl, combine cherries, apples, sugar, flour and lemon juice; pour into greased 8-inch (2 L) square glass baking dish. Set aside.

Topping: Mix together flour, almonds, sugar and lemon rind; drizzle butter over top. Stir until crumbly. Sprinkle evenly over fruit mixture.

Bake in centre of 350°F (180°C) oven for 45 to 60 minutes or until bubbly, topping is golden and fruit is tender. Serve with scoop of whipped cream (if using). Makes 6 servings.
