Cheddar Onion Burgers
Cook up burgers with a surprise — a melted cheese-and-onion filling.

Great Burgers recipe, uncooked
1/2 cup (125 mL) shredded cheddar cheese
1 green onion, chopped
6 hamburger buns
Preparation:
Form burger mixture into 12 patties. Combine Cheddar and onion; sprinkle over 6 of the patties, leaving 1/4-inch (5 mm) border. Place remaining patties on top; press edges together to seal. Place on greased grill over medium-high heat; cook for 6 minutes per side or until no longer pink inside. Sandwich in buns.

Mozzarella Basil Filling: Combine 1/2 cup (125 mL) shredded mozzarella cheese, 2 tbsp (25 mL) chopped fresh basil and 1 tbsp (15 mL) freshly grated Parmesan cheese.Per burger: about 390 calories, 24 g protein, 15 g fat, 37 g carbobydrate, excellent source iron.
Monterey Jack and Salsa Filling: Sprinkle 1/2 cup (125 mL) shredded Monterey Jack cheese over 6 patties, leaving 1/4-inch (5 mm) border. Spoon 1 tsp (5 mL) salsa over cheese.
Per burger: about 385 caloties, 24 g protein, 16 g fat, 36 g carbobydrate, good source iron.
