The Negroni is an aperitif, or predinner drink, intended to stimulate appetites with the bitter Italian aperitif Campari. For best flavour, choose a full-bodied gin, such as Beefeater or Gordon's.

Ingredients

  • 2 oranges
  • 10 oz gin
  • 6 oz soda water
  • 5 oz Campari
  • 4 oz sweet vermouth
  • 4 cups ice cubes

Preparation

Cut oranges in half. Slice 1 of the halves; place in pitcher. Juice remaining oranges to make about 1/2 cup (125 mL) juice; add to pitcher. Mash slices gently with spoon.

Add gin, soda water, Campari and sweet vermouth; stir to combine. Add ice.
