Instead of deep-frying these frites at the last minute, simply bake them in the oven.

Ingredients

  • 3 baking potatoes, (about 1-1/2 lb/750 g)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt or coarse salt

Preparation

Scrub potatoes. With paring knife, cut out any eyes or dark spots; peel if desired. Slice potatoes lengthwise into 1/2-inch (1 cm) thick slices; cut each into 1/2-inch (1 cm) wide strips. Toss with oil; sprinkle with salt.

Arrange on rimmed baking sheet. Bake in 450°F (230°C) oven, turning once, until crisp and golden, about 50 minutes.
