If you like to roast the turkey unstuffed (or are running out of space in the oven), this is a perfectly delicious solution. The shredded wheat cereal adds texture and nutty flavour.

1/3 cup (75 mL) butter
2 onions, chopped
2 stalks celery, finely chopped
1 tbsp (15 mL) dried sage
1 tsp (5 mL) each salt and pepper
12 cups (3 L) cubed day-old bread
2 shredded wheat cereal biscuits, crumbled
1/2 cup (125 mL) turkey stock or sodium-reduced chicken stock
Preparation:
In slow cooker, combine butter, onions, celery, sage, salt and pepper; cover and cook on high for 1 hour.
Stir in bread, cereal and stock; cook, covered, for 1 hour, stirring once. Reduce heat to low; cook for 1 hour.

Additional Information
- Tip: After reducing heat to low, you can add 1 cup (250 mL) chopped dried fruit. Or just before serving, add 1 cup (250 mL) chopped toasted nuts.
