Green cosmetics to support breast cancer

I 'm not generally a big fan of "pinkwashing" products for breast cancer.

While raising money to support women affected, survivors and researchers is very important, I often feel like carcinogenic products are slapped with a pink label and sold as a way to buy into a cause.

At least participating in a run or walk adds to your health while raising money. That's why I was ridiculously happy to hear about a new brand called Causemetics for the Canadian Breast Cancer Support Fund (CBCSF). It's Canada's only green breast cancer charity and provides financial assistance to women fighting the disease—both big pluses in my book.

Green beauty is clearly the way to go, whether you're affected by breast cancer or not. "Prevention is a key mandate and we believe minimizing exposure to harmful toxins is part of the solution, so working with cosmetics industry partners who create natural products is perfectly in alignment,” says Donna Sheehan, CBCSF Executive Director and breast cancer survivor. She's also adamant that financial stress can be as stressful as diagnosis and treatment, which is why she started the organization.

Causemetics represents a long term commitment by 11 amazing Canadian natural & non-toxic skincare and cosmetics companies including  Consonant SkincareLovefresh, Pure+SimpleSchafGraydonElla’sCocoon ApothecarySappho Cosmetics,  EvokeSigrid and  Province Apothecary. The CBCSF, in collaboration with 11 of Canada’s leading all-natural, non-toxic skincare and cosmetic companies launched this week at  www.cbcsf.ca through online retail partner  www.well.ca and at Green Beauty Spa in Toronto, as well as thrivecausemetics.com

For each product sold, a portion of the proceeds ($4 to $10 as marked on the package) will be donated to the CBCSF. Learn more about your breast health here.
