Steep a thyme sprig, a wedge of lemon, a few slices of gingerroot, a few peppercorns and a garlic clove (optional) in a cup of boiling water for five to 10 minutes.
It doesn't sound very good, but Susan, our editor-in-chief, swears by it – and insists that it tastes great, too (we're not so sure).
