Crocheted cap

Crocheted cap with openwork band is worked flat. Instructions are given for girls' size (4 to 10 years old). Any changes for women's size are written in brackets. If there is only one set of figures, it applies to both sizes. Standard abbreviations are used. Recommended for crocheters with some experience.

YOU NEED:
•1 ball Lily Elite Cotton 4-ply Solids (100 g)
•5.50 mm crochet hook OR whichever hook you require to produce the tension given below
•Tapestry needle

SPECIAL ABBREVIATION:
MB (make bobble) = [Yoh and draw up loop, yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook] 5 times in same st. Yoh and draw through all 6 loops on hook.

TENSION:
13 hdc and 8 rows = 10 cm (4 ins) using specified yarn and hook. Work to exact tension with specified yarn to obtain satisfactory results.

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK TENSION.

TO MAKE:

Ch 62 (68).
1st row: (RS) Hdc in 3rd ch from hook (first 2 ch count as 1 hdc). [1 hdc in next ch] to end of row. Turn. 61(67) hdc now in row.
Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc). Skip first hdc. [1 hdc in next hdc] to end of row. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc). Skip first hdc. [1 hdc in next hdc] to end of row. Turn. .
Row 4: Ch 5 (counts as 1 dc and ch 2). Skip next 2 hdc. 1 dc in next hdc. [Ch 2, skip next 2 hdc, 1 dc in next hdc] to end of row. Turn.
Row 5: Ch 5 (counts as 1 dc and ch 2). Skip ch 2. MB in next dc. Ch 2. [Skip next ch 2 sp, 1 dc in next dc, ch 2, skip next ch 2 sp, MB in next dc, ch 2] 9(10) times. 1 dc in 3rd ch of ch 5. Turn. .
Row 6: Ch 5 (counts as 1 dc and ch 2). Skip next ch 2 sp. 1 dc in next bobble. Ch 2. [Skip next ch 2 sp, 1 dc in next dc, ch 2, skip next ch 2 sp, 1 dc in next bobble, ch 2] 9(10) times. 1 dc in 3rd ch of ch 5. Turn.
Row 7: Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc). 2 hdc in ch 2 sp. [1 hdc in next dc, 2 hdc in ch 2 sp] to last st. 1 hdc in 3rd ch of ch 5. Turn.
Rows 8 and 9: As given for Row 3. Turn.
Row 10: Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc). [Skip next hdc, 1 hdc in each of next 9(10) hdc] to end of row. 55(61) hdc now in row. Turn.
Row 11: Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc). [Skip next hdc, 1 hdc in each of next 8(9) hdc] to end of row. Turn. 49(55) hdc now in row.
Row 12: Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc). [Skip next hdc, 1 hdc in each of next 7(8) hdc] to end of row. 43(49) hdc now in row. Turn.
Row 13: Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc). [Skip next hdc, 1 hdc in each of next 6(7) hdc] to end of row. 37(43) hdc now in row. Turn.
Row 14: Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc). [Skip next hdc, 1 hdc in each of next 5(6) hdc] to end of row. 31(37) hdc now in row. Turn.
Row 15: Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc). [Skip next hdc, 1 hdc in each of next 4(5) hdc] to end of row. 25(31) hdc now in row. Turn.

For adult size only: Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc). [Skip next hdc, 1 hdc in each of next 3 hdc] to end of row. 19 hdc now in row. Turn.
Row 17(18): Ch 1. 1 sc in first hdc. [Draw up loop in next 3 hdc, yoh and draw through all 4 loops on hook] to end of row. Fasten off.

Fold so right sides are together; sew centre-back seam.
