Add a berry-hued lipstick to your fall beauty look

Blackberry, raspberry, boysenberry—what's your jam? A runway fave this season, the berry pout is our must-try lip colour for fall.

Changing to a darker lipstick for autumn isn't a passing fad—it's a style staple. In fact, file it under modern classic. This fall, the newest iteration of deep lip colours is all about creating drama with different levels of saturation and shades of berry. "Berry lips are beautiful on all skin tones," says Plutino Group makeup artist Jukka. "There are several ways of wearing this colour, from a very simple diffused lip stain to a more saturated and precise matte lipstick." No matter what version of berry you wear, it packs a huge punch. Think of the lip as a style statement, like a bold necklace or bright pair of shoes, so you don't want to go over the top. "Berry lips look best with glowing skin [achieved with BB cream and highlighter] and mascara—that's all you really need," says Jukka.

Pre-application tip: Prep with a scrub to buff away dead skin and make your lips look smoother.

LOW RISK

If deep saturated hues intimidate you, start with a tinted gel or oil balm for minimal colour. Graduate to a lip stain for a longer-lasting wash of colour.

MODERATE

Try a nourishing lipstick infused with shea butter. This creamy texture will feel comfortable, while the colour payoff will provide a rich satin finish.
