What Is Clafoutis? The Summer Dessert You Need To Try
Fans of flan will want to try this sweet treat.
We know the importance of dessert at a summer dinner party or barbecue. But between making the appetizers, heating up the grill, and throwing together a few sides, ice cream often becomes the go-to. (Nothing wrong with that—we just have an upgrade for you that's almost as easy!)
What is clafoutis?
Clafoutis is a French dessert that you can equate to a crustless tart. It's made of a thick yet pourable batter of flour, sugar, eggs, and milk that bakes to a custard-like consistency. It's best used to showcase fresh produce—something that's at an all-time high in the summer.
Bonus: Clafoutis uses pantry staples and is mostly hands off, so you can create a homemade dessert with as little effort as possible.
How to make clafoutis
All you need is a few ingredients you most likely already have on hand. The only fresh addition is your fruit of choice. A traditional clafoutis includes:
- eggs
- milk
- flour
- sugar
- butter
- your choice of fruit/flavourings
