People From This Canadian City Spent The Most On Travel This Summer

Can you guess which Canadian city took the crown as this summer’s biggest tourists?

Without a doubt, it was the summer of homegrown travel for Canadians. From cross-country road trips to visiting under-the-radar destinations, 2025 was all about celebrating our very own travel hubs.

But whether you were a domestic explorer or ventured across the pond, travellers from certain Canadian cities hopped on a plane more frequently than others.

Montreal beat out Toronto as the city searching for the most flights this year, according to new data from the travel search engine KAYAK. Next in line is Calgary, with Vancouver trailing behind.

Here's what else Canadian travellers were searching—and booking—over the summer.

What destinations did Canadians search for this summer?

It looks like travellers from Quebec City, Que., were the most likely to head out on a staycation. This city spent the most on domestic flights during summer 2025, with an average spend of almost $600.

Other cities noted a more even split when it came to searching for domestic and international flights. Travellers from St. John’s., Nfld., Winnipeg, Man, and Kelowna, B.C., looked far and wide, as well as locally, for summer destinations.

Who spent the most on travel overall?

When it comes to business or first class flights, travellers from Vancouver, Victoria, and Mississauga, Ont., were the most likely to invest.

But what about the other costs of travel? Travellers from Laval, a small town in Quebec, searched for the most four and five-star hotels. Toronto followed closely behind.

Those hailing from Brampton take the cake as the top searchers for luxury and premium rental cars.
